GET TO KNOW ME

Background Information

My work is mainly representing nature, which fascinated me from an incredibly early age. Yet, I witnessed the gradual disappearance of the natural locations in my hometown the capital city of Damascus- Syria, and later the terrible conflict in Syria, which desertification was one of the critical reasons for it, resulting from mismanagement and the rise of materialistic values.

Thus, there was a focus on landscape. It is the longing to be in a world where the matter is not devoid of spirit and see life everywhere, a life full of intelligence that weaves its way through the trees, the rocks, the sky, the sea, and the entire existence. An existence that is far greater than anything man can do or comprehend. An intelligence that does not seek to rule the world, and for man to be a small part of something much greater than himself, which is very liberating and peace provoking.

My work aims to speak to everybody, not just the artistic sphere, this is because I see the importance of engaging people in all cultural domains. Consequently, my sceneries are always representational. On the one hand, I seek beauty, colours, and sensual triggering effects in my paintings, I do so by using bold bright vivid colours and very thick sculptural brush strokes, influenced by the impressionist masters and Van Gogh. I do that on Canvases and love to do it on the glass as well. On the other hand, I use a pencil or black ink to reflect critical events in my drawings, in a detailed intricate manner inspired by Islamic art. Besides, I make collages and sculptures drawing the attention of the viewer on the beauty of the common and the unnoticed bits and pieces of nature. l loves doing works using needles and threads such as the tapestry to emphasize the artwork traditionally made by women.
